This workshop is a terrific opportunity for any parents you know that volunteer with schools with schoolyard habitats and of course for any of the teachers they work with. Please pass this along to anyone you think would benefit. I hope this workshop is packed as maintenance is the number one key to a sustainable school yard/ outdoor classroom.
Please join the National Wildlife Federation and AISD at a schoolyard habitat maintenance workshop at Discovery Hill on November 2nd.
Designer, Judy Walther from Environmental Survey Consulting will lead a tour of the garden. Participants will learn:
- To identify many of the plants in the garden, including their growth form, bloom dates and habitat types.
- Strategies and techniques for maintaining various plant types, including when to trim back, when to thin out, when to water.
- How design of your garden might affect maintenance issues.
- Resources available regarding further plant information, places to buy native plants, and potentially helpful organizations.
Please dress for the weather and be prepared to learn in part through practice at this fun and informative workshop!
