Weekend service opportunities in honor of MLK Day

In case your school doesn't already have something planned, there are plenty of opportunities around town to honor MLK this weekend (and Monday, MLK Day) and our environment. This is re-posted from Keep Austin Beautiful's e-newsletter:

Each year, Americans across the country come together on MLK Day to serve their neighbors and communities. Make this MLK Day a day of service by giving back to your community and protecting the environment. This year, Keep Austin Beautiful has four volunteer opportunities for you to make a difference on this important day of service.

January 18th, 15th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Clean Up - clean MLK Blvd. in partnership with State Representative Dawnna Dukes and United Way for Greater Austin .

January 18th, Williamson Creek Cleanup - show your love for South Austin with the help of one of KAB’s dedicated Adopt-A-Creek groups. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn how you can get involved with our ongoing efforts to keep Austin’s creeks clean and safe.

January 20th, Buttermilk Creek Service Learning Day - Join Austin Youth River Watch, Keep Austin Beautiful, and the City of Austin Watershed Protection Department to clean up the creek, plant seeds, and learn more about creek restoration.

January 20th, Colorado River Wildlife Sanctuary Clean Up - KAB and Whole Foods Market are teaming up to enjoy a short hike into the preserve, plant trees, and clean up trash and litter washed ashore by the recent flooding. Made possible thanks to funding from 3M – read below for more details.
