The training program was developed for the National Center by the PedNet Coalition, a national leader in developing community programs and campaigns to encourage people to walk, bike, and use transit. PedNet, which is based in Columbia, Mo., also operates a large Walking School Bus program with 13 schools, 200 volunteers and more than 500 children, and shares its expertise through workshops around the country.
The online training shares practical approaches, community-tested processes, and tools to assist communities in planning and organizing a Walking School Bus program. It also incorporates new ideas, models, examples and lessons from PedNet's experience of the last seven years.
Participants will learn how to prepare, build momentum and launch a Walking School Bus program, including identifying community partners, and securing program funding. The audio/visual format will make it easy for people across the country to access the training and learn from PedNet’s experience.
